Mitch Monteiro

NCAA Division I All-American | 2x Pac-10 Champion | California State Finalist | Paso Robles Hall of Fame

Coach Mitch Monteiro brings an elite level of wrestling and coaching experience to ORIGIN Training Center, with a career that spans championship-level high school wrestling, NCAA Division I competition, and collegiate coaching. A standout at Paso Robles High School, Monteiro established himself as one of California's premier wrestlers. He placed 3rd at the California State Championships in 2004 before returning as a senior in 2005 and advancing all the way to the state finals. In 2005, Monteiro finished 2nd in the California State Wrestling Championships at 217 pounds, completing an outstanding senior season with a 45–2 record. His high school accomplishments and contributions to Paso Robles athletics ultimately earned him recognition as a member of the Paso Robles Hall of Fame. Monteiro continued his wrestling career at NCAA Division I Cal State Bakersfield, where he developed into one of the nation's top collegiate heavyweights. While competing for the Roadrunners, Monteiro captured back-to-back Pac-10 Championships in 2009 and 2010, earning trips to the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. His collegiate career culminated at the 2010 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, where Monteiro battled through the national tournament to finish 5th in the nation at heavyweight, earning NCAA Division I All-American honors. Monteiro also competed in the prestigious NWCA All-Star Classic, where he defeated Iowa State's No. 2-ranked David Zabriskie with a takedown in the final seconds of the match. Following his competitive career, Monteiro transitioned into coaching at the NCAA Division I level, serving as an Assistant Wrestling Coach at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and helping develop the next generation of collegiate wrestlers. Today, Coach Monteiro brings that experience back home to the Central Coast as a coach at ORIGIN Training Center. His combination of California high school success, NCAA Division I All-American credentials, collegiate coaching experience, and deep roots in Paso Robles wrestling gives ORIGIN athletes the opportunity to learn from a coach who has competed and coached at the highest levels of the sport.

Coach

Joe Belmonte

Atascadero High School Head Wrestling Coach | 2004 CIF-SS Masters Champion | 3x CIF Champion | Team California

Coach Joe Belmonte's connection to Central Coast wrestling spans more than two decades — from being one of Atascadero High School's most accomplished wrestlers to coaching and developing the next generation of athletes throughout the region. A standout wrestler for Atascadero High School, Belmonte was a three-time CIF Section Champion from 2002–2004, an accomplishment that places him among a select group of wrestlers in Atascadero wrestling history. Belmonte's success extended well beyond the local level. In 2003, he earned the opportunity to represent Team California, competing alongside some of the top wrestlers in the state. As a senior in 2004, Belmonte capped off his high school career by winning the CIF Southern Section Masters Championship, establishing himself as one of Southern California's top wrestlers in his weight class. Following his competitive career, Belmonte eventually returned to the sport as a coach, dedicating his time to developing wrestlers in Atascadero and throughout California's Central Coast. Belmonte helped lead Mad Dog Wrestling Club, Atascadero's youth wrestling program, before joining forces with Paso Robles' Smash Mouth Wrestling Club to establish ORIGIN Training Center. The merger created a year-round wrestling program designed to bring together athletes from across the Central Coast and provide them with high-level training partners, experienced coaching, and increased opportunities to compete throughout California and nationally. At the high school level, Belmonte returned to his alma mater as an assistant coach before ultimately being selected as Head Wrestling Coach at Atascadero High School, bringing his wrestling journey full circle. Today, through ORIGIN Training Center and Atascadero High School Wrestling, Coach Belmonte is focused on helping build a stronger wrestling culture on the Central Coast — creating opportunities for young wrestlers to train year-round, compete at a high level, and develop the discipline, confidence, toughness, and work ethic that wrestling instills.

Coach

Jayson Davidson

Youth Wrestling & Football Coach | 30+ Years of Coaching Experience

Coach Jayson Davidson brings more than 30 years of youth coaching experience to ORIGIN Training Center, with decades spent mentoring young athletes through both wrestling and football. A longtime member of the Paso Robles community, Davidson has dedicated a significant portion of his life to youth athletics. His coaching background extends beyond teaching technique and competition — it is built around developing discipline, toughness, accountability, teamwork, and confidence in young athletes. Davidson was part of the leadership behind Smash Mouth Wrestling Club in Paso Robles, one of the two established Central Coast wrestling programs that ultimately joined forces to create ORIGIN Training Center. The merger of Smash Mouth Wrestling Club and Atascadero's Mad Dog Wrestling Club brought together coaches and athletes who had previously competed as rivals and created a unified year-round training environment for wrestlers throughout the Central Coast. That philosophy of putting athletes and the future of the sport first is central to Davidson's approach to coaching. With more than three decades spent around youth sports, Coach Davidson understands that success is measured by much more than wins and losses. His goal is to help young athletes develop the work ethic, resilience, confidence, and character that will serve them both on and off the mat. At ORIGIN, Davidson brings the perspective of a veteran youth coach who understands how to connect with young athletes, challenge them, hold them accountable, and help them grow over the course of their athletic careers.
